PTOs, power take-offs

PTOs (Power Take-Offs) are a mechanical element that allows the transmission of power from the gearbox to another device, such as a hydraulic pump or compressor. Due to the fact that in the case of automotive hydraulic systems, power take-offs are mounted directly to the gearbox, in order to properly select the power take-off, you need to know some basic parameters regarding the vehicle.

The PTOs (power take-offs) are:

  • name of the vehicle manufacturer
  • gearbox type
  • end use of the PTO The most common use of PTOs is to drive hydraulic pumps or drive a compressor. However, it is possible to use specialist attachments to drive both of these devices simultaneously or dedicated devices (e.g. pumps in fire fighting vehicles).
  • gear ratio in first gear

Each power take-off has a specific type of output for which a suitable adapter can be used if required.

To ensure the correct fit of the gearbox, power take-off, flange or adapter, it is recommended to use mounting kits designed for specific configurations.

ETN technicians will be happy to help you select and configure all of the above elements to your needs.
